Finding Marbles is a place to find ‘gems’ from the world of art and design that help you to create spaces that have a positive impact on your well-being and are a source of inspiration for self-expression.

At a time where much of the world is being challenged with the impact of stress and adversity, research shows that positive imagination and the expressive arts can reduce stress and repair our mood in these moments.

By utilising my skills in art and design, I can help you create interiors that feel balanced, calm and serene or that are energy inducing, joyous and happy. I can work with you to build a brief that answers your wellbeing requirements.

In addition, you can find writings on my blog about artists, designers, craftspeople, makers and artisans and how their work and creations can change the way we live and feel in ourselves and about the world around us.

As a child I loved making things from the make-and-do bag my Mum had lovingly put together for me including an endless supply of yoghurt pots and toilet rolls! A religious watcher of Neil Buchanan’s Art Attack, Tony Hart and Changing Rooms, I loved drawing, painting, knitting, jewellery making, even making my own shoes, achieving a brownie badge for the latter. In addition, my Dad, an engineer and a dab hand at DIY, used to call me in as his assistant whether we were putting up shelves, building desks or guiding me through my design technology projects at school.

It was no surprise that I went on to study Art as well as English literature, and Media studies before going to Edinburgh College of Art and graduating in Visual Communication in 2008. I then moved to London where I worked for 13 years for some of the biggest image content providers and archives in the world, researching, curating, and selling imagery to designers and creators for global advertising campaigns, major film feature releases, art exhibitions and interior design projects. My passion for art led me into art consultancy where I curated art collections for workplace, hospitality, and residential projects. Projects I have worked on include working for Ikea, Heal’s, LuxDeco, Trowbridge Gallery, Heni Editions, Design Haus Liberty and David Collins Studio to name a few.

This was until I suffered serious mental illness due to stress which took me on a journey of self-discovery and initiated the process of reconsidering how I needed to work and live. As a result of the changes I needed to make to my own home and lifestyle, I decided to study Interior Design before leaving the big smoke in 2021 after another relapse in health.

After successfully moving to the Lake District, here in the UK, I worked for a luxury furniture and upholsterer called Peter Hall & Son aiding customers to scheme and find appropriate fabrics for their homes whilst happily renovating my first home and putting all I have learnt into practice.

By utilising the knowledge and experiences I have had, I can offer inspiring, practical ways to create spaces that can reduce stress, change our mood or that simply evoke joy and relaxation.

As an advocate and activist for change in breaking the stigmas around mental illness, my goal is to help change perceptions of those who live with mental health conditions that are often mis-understood.
